Frances Ewing Press
Biography…
A straight line is drawn freehand, from left to right, and the next line is drawn under. But it wanders. And so it goes on. The textures are determined by the succession of minute meanderings.
I have been making 'line' drawings for over twenty years, endeavouring to create the maximum from the minimum. There have been strong influences from the works of Agnes Martin, and more recently the works of David Connearn have encouraged me to push further with my practice.
Earlier works include the 'Banners of Contemplative Order' series, with stacks of 'lines' working across the dark, brooding surface of oil on canvas. One of these panels was selected for the John Moores Biennale at the Walker Art Gallery Liverpool.
Now living and working in Hampshire, whilst exhibiting regularly in London and the UK, it is good to know that my work is enjoyed in private collections, in Scotland, Europe, USA and South America.
